First off, I was born here in El Paso and haven't really lived anywhere else. I really hate it here--the weather, the scenery, everything. I suppose everyone says that about their home town, though, they all want to go somewhere new. I guess I'm the same way, then.
Anyway, I started drawing (seriously drawing) when I was in seventh grade for one reason: Sailor Moon.
Ugh, I hang my head in shame. Well, my friend asked me to draw some characters from the show and so I tried... and they didn't come out too well. So I continued trying to improve my skills until it just evolved passed Sailor Moon. Suddenly, I was just into drawing Anime period. I've been drawing Anime for about 5 years now and recently I've discovered that it doesn't interest me as much as it used to. It just feels boring almost.
And so I've started drawing my cartoon characters more realistic. Even if some people disagree, I find it more interesting and challenging to draw people how they really look... not how I think they would look as an Anime character, because as you know, almost all Anime characters look alike.
I'm currently a Senior and am in a class called Advertising Design where I'm learning to improve my layout skills. I've always wanted to be a comic book artist, and so I figured taking a class like that would help lead me in the right direction. So far it has helped, and I think that class might be responsible for me growing out of drawing Anime. We do a lot of figure drawing and Ad. layouts where you have to draw people realistically.
That's pretty much it... oh, well, except for one thing. You might notice in the favorite movie area I called myself a home-wrecker. Well, I'm not really one... at least not yet, dammit. I seem to have a thing for guys in their early to mid 30s. There's probably something psychological behind that but I really don't care to analyze it too much... it really takes the fun out of it, heh ;) -Ashley
